Prepress departments face new challenges as all-digital production got into a new phase of evolution: maximum efficiency with a minimum of staff

Prepress

Changes in today's prepress are influenced by the rapid evolution of desktop publishing software and the shrinking profit margins of print production. Quality and efficiency can kept high only with solutions reflecting the new principles of production. For most of the clients, prepress considered a mere data-conversion facility, instead of being part of the creative process. Speed, efficiency and accountability became the key factors, while prepress departments got deserted.

OmniTek's prepress workflow system, SmartMove is the right choice for environments challenged by increasing job volume and ever-tightening deadlines. It's integrated architecture combines a perfectionist approach with ease of use, while keeping the resource footprint down to a minimum. Thanks to it's different, optional modules, you can build up a system in steps, investing into features as demand grows. Out of the box, SmartMove will drive any CTP imager perfectly, outputting imposed signatures assembled by the built-in imposition module. Screening, trapping, preflight parameters are all easily accessible, too, on the revolutionary new user interface, which streamlines the interaction with the system. Jobs can be prioritized and re-prioritized with a click of the mouse, while processing, approval and more happens in the background.

When top performance is important, additional SmartMove processors can be deployed, to form a complete cluster of computers working together seamlessly. It would seem complicated, but the whole arrangement and it's operation can be managed and tracked from the distance using a smartphone or a tablet. Clients can also connect into the system using any kind of devices, to review, check and approve submitted jobs. Clients with appropriate rights can create, upload, preflight, review and approve jobs without any involvement from the prepress staff - that means the backoffice's activity is only started when the relevant files for a given job is present in the system with approved status. Afterwards, the rule-based, automatic system can go on with the production, achieving top efficiency with a minimum of effort from the prepress staff.
